A letter from POAM representative Dave LaMontaine
Date: 11-13-2012
Brothers & Sisters,
It appears our worst fears are about to come true. The lobbyist for DSAM, Barb Farrah reports, and was confirmed by POAM Lobbyist Tim Ward, that the republican lead State House will introduce legislation proposing that the State of Michigan become a right to work state.
It is not clear if this legislation will include all workers, or just public employees. The more insidious attack will be just on "us" in the public sector, as many feel organized labor will stay out of a fight if it is just "us".
The republican led State House will introduce this legislation at or near the last day of the current "lame duck" session. The will pass the house for sure. There is some, although slim, hope that either the republican controlled senate, or the Governor will stand up and see this is an over reach.
POAM & DSAM will continue to lobby our republican friends in both houses. It is clear that this is a direct response for supporting Prop. 2, and it's subsequent failure to pass. This is further complicated by Jase Bolger being targeted by democrats.
We may be approaching our darkest hour. I wish I could provide you with some sliver of hope.
Yours in Solidarity,
Dave
