We have all felt the sting of Public Act 54 which is the new law that froze our pay steps, forced increases in health care payments and prohibited retro. There is now a bill being introduced in the House of Representatives that would exempt public workers with P.A.

As some of you may or may not know, part of my job in the union is dedicated to working as the Legislative Director for the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Michigan (DSAM). DSAM is not a union; it is a lobbying organization that lobbies for the betterment of Sheriff Deputies in the state of Michigan.

As a very small amount of our membership may know the current batch of legislatures in Lansing has attacked public sector workers at every turn. I say a very small amount of our members because it is apparent that a majority of our membership does not care if we lose our bargaining rights.

Deputy Sheriff's Association of Michigan
You may or may not know but you are all members of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Michigan (DSAM). DSAM is not a union; it is a lobbying organization which fights for the rights of all Sheriff Deputies in the state of Michigan. DSAM and POAM teamed up to stop the state legislatures from taking away our PA 312 rights.
